From Aramaic זְקִיפָא (zəqīp̄ā), equivalent to the passive participle of ܙܵܩܹܦ (zāqēp). The noun is from Akkadian 𒄑𒍣𒆥𒉿 (/⁠zaqīpu⁠/, stake); cognate to Hebrew זָקוּף (zakúf).
