[edit]From Aramaic זְקִיפָא (zəqīp̄ā), equivalent to the passive participle of ܙܵܩܹܦ (zāqēp). The noun is from Akkadian 𒄑𒍣𒆥𒉿 (/zaqīpu/, “stake”); cognate to Hebrew זָקוּף (zakúf).
