From Aramaic הֵיכְלָא (hēḵəlā), from Akkadian 𒂍𒃲 (ēkallum, palace, temple), from Sumerian 𒂍𒃲 (e₂-gal); compare Arabic هَيْكَل (haykal), Hebrew הֵיכָל (heikhál) and Ugaritic 𐎅𐎋𐎍 (hkl /⁠hêkal⁠/).
