Derived from the verb ܕܵܟ݂ܹܪ (dāḵēr, to remember), of an old noun formation pattern 1i23ōnā seen in remnants in Classical Syriac such as ܢܸܣܝܘܿܢܵܐ (nesyōnā); compare Hebrew זִכָּרוֹן (zikarón).
