Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish دونوم (dönüm) belonging to دونمك (dönmek, to turn), presumably a calque from Byzantine Greek στρέμμα (strémma, stremma, literally that which is turned); compare also borrowed into Arabic دُونُم (dūnum).
