[edit]Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish دونوم (dönüm) belonging to دونمك (dönmek, “to turn”), presumably a calque from Byzantine Greek στρέμμα (strémma, “stremma”, literally “that which is turned”); compare also borrowed into Arabic دُونُم (dūnum).
