[edit]Inherited from Aramaic אַיְנָא (ʾaynā), from אַי (ʾay) + הָנָא (hānā, “this”), hence from Proto-Semitic *ʔayy-; compare Hebrew אֵיזֶה (éize), Arabic أَيّ (ʔayy) and Akkadian 𒀀𒀀𒌑𒌝 (ayyum).
