[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yāg (“fat, butter, lard”); cognate with Azerbaijani yağ, Chuvash ҫу (śu), Kazakh жау (jau), Kyrgyz жоон (joon), Tatar яу (yaw), Turkmen ýag, Uyghur ياغ (yagh), Uzbek yoʻg and Yakut сыа (sıa).
