[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit *घरायतन (gharāyatana), from घर (ghara, “house”) + आयतन (āyatana, “home”). Cognate with Punjabi ਘਰਾਨਾ (gharānā) / گھرانہ (ghrānh), Sindhi گھراڻو / घराणो, Marathi घराणे (gharāṇe).
