[edit]From گورکان (gurkân, from Middle Mongol ᠬᠦᠷᠭᠡᠨ (kürgen, “son-in-law”)) + ـی (-i). Timur, the founder of the Mughals' dynasty, was the son-in-law of the Genghisid khan.
