From Middle Persian [script needed] (gwmʾn' /⁠gumān⁠/, doubt), from Proto-Iranian *wimānah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian. Compare Avestan 𐬬𐬍𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬋 (vīmanō, one of the Ahrimanic plagues: doubt?), Sanskrit विमनस् (vimanas, sad, disconsolate).
