[edit]From Middle Persian glʾn' (garān, “heavy”), from Proto-Iranian *grā-na- (“heavy”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷréh₂us (“heavy”).[1] Cognate to Latin gravis (“heavy”).
