Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀼𑀳 (*kuha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀭- (-ra-) (compare Sanskrit कुहेडी (kuheḍī), कुहेडिका (kuheḍikā)). Cognate with Sindhi ڪوهيڙو (kohīṛo), Hindustani کہرا / कुहरा (kuhrā).
