[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀔𑁄𑀢𑁆𑀢 (*khotta, “donkey”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), of non-Indo-Aryan origin; possibly related to Sanskrit घोट (ghoṭa, “horse”) (whence گھوڑا (ghoṛā)).
