[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit कण्टफल (kaṇṭaphala, literally “thorny fruit”); cognate with Assamese কঁঠাল (kõthal), Bengali কাঁঠাল (kãṭhal), Bhojpuri कटहर (kaṭᵊhar), and Odia କଠଲ (kaṭhala).
