Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀣𑀼𑀁𑀪𑀭𑀻 (kutthuṃbharī), from Sanskrit कुस्तुम्बरी (kustumbarī).[1]

Mostly used in Deccan region (Hyderabad, Aurangabad, etc.) and Gujarat. In Pakistan and North India the common term for coriander is دَھنِیا (dhaniyā).
