[edit]From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ŠMg) / [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwncyt' /kunjid/, “sesame”), from Proto-Iranian *kunčit. Compare Old Armenian կնճիթ (knčitʻ), Armenian քունջութ (kʻunǰutʻ) and Georgian ქუნჯუტი (kunǯuṭi).
