[edit]Blend of Proto-Turkic *čiye (“cherry”) and *yegelek (“berry”). Compare Azerbaijani çiyələk, Chagatai چیلاك (čiläk), Kazakh жидек (jidek), Khakas чистек (çistek), Kumyk жиелек (jiyelek), Southern Altai јиилек (ǰiilek) and Tatar җиләк (ciläk) for similar formations.
