[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀙𑀸𑀬𑀡𑀻 (chāyaṇī), ultimately from Sanskrit छादन (chādana, “covering”). Cognate with Punjabi چَھوݨی (chauṇī), Sindhi ڇانوڻي (chānvaṇī) and Gujarati છાવણી (chāvṇī).
