Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *č(i)akmak (“firestriker”), a development of *č(i)ak- (“to hit, strike”), whence چاقمق (çakmak, “to hit, strike”). Cognate with Azerbaijani çaxmaq and Uyghur چاقماق (chaqmaq).
