Inherited from Apabhramsa 𑖢𑖲𑖨𑖯𑖡 (purāna), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀭𑀸𑀡 (purāṇa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit पुराण (purāṇá).
