Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀝𑀁𑀓 (ṭaṃka), from Sanskrit टङ्क (ṭaṅka). First attested as Middle Hindi ٿانگ (ṭang /⁠ṭang⁠/) / ٿنگ (ṭng /⁠ṭng⁠/).
