Etymology 1

From Arabic هكذا (hākaḏā). Cognate with South Levantine Arabic هَيك (hēk), Gulf Arabic چِذِي (čeḏī) and others.

Probably from Persian هیچ (“nothing”). Compare Turkish hiç as well.
