[edit]Inherited from Middle Persian [script needed] (hlck' /harzag/, “loose, free”), from Proto-Iranian *hr̥j- (“to let go, to release”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárȷ́- (“to let go, to release”), from Proto-Indo-European *selǵ- (“to let go”). Compare Sanskrit सर्ग (sarga, “discharging, voiding”), English sulky.
