      وَحَكَى الْجَاحِظُ فِي بَعْضِ مُصَنَّفَاتِهِ أَنَّ بَهْرَام جُور، أَحَدَ مُلُوكِ الْفُرْسِ، لَمَّا مَلَكَ بَعْدَ أَبِيهِ يَزْدَجُرْدَ غَلَبَ الْعَدُوُّ عَلَى بَعْضِ أَطْرَافِ بِلَادِهِ، فَأَظْهَرَ ٱلِٱسْتِهَانَةَ بِأَمْرِ الْعَدُوِّ وَٱلِٱسْتِخْفَافَ بِهِ، حَتَّى قَوِيَ أَمْرُ الْعَدُوِّ، وَٱشْتَدَّتْ شَوْكَتُهُ، وَزَحَفَ نَحْوَهُ.
      waḥakā l-jāḥiẓu fī baʕḍi muṣannafātihi ʔanna bahrām jūr, ʔaḥada mulūki l-fursi, lammā malaka baʕda ʔabīhi yazdajurda ḡalaba l-ʕaduwwu ʕalā baʕḍi ʔaṭrāfi bilādihi, faʔaẓhara l-istihānata biʔamri l-ʕaduwwi wal-istiḵfāfa bihi, ḥattā qawiya ʔamru l-ʕaduwwi, waštaddat šawkatuhu, wazaḥafa naḥwahu.
      Al-Jahiz recounts in one of his works that Bahram Gur, one of the kings of Persia, upon succeeding his father, Yazdagurd, had some of his frontier areas conquered by the enemy. He feigned inattention in the affair of the enemy and lightness towards it until the power of the enemy became strong and marched against him.
