Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Arabic مُرَكَّبَات (murakkabāt), Arabic plural of مُرَكَّب (murakkab, compound, composite). In modern Persian, مرکب (morakkab) most often means "black ink" and the two terms have diverged semantically.
