    • c. 1075, Abu'l-Fażl Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn Bayhaqī, تاریخ بیهقی [Tārīkh-i Bayhaqī]:
čunīn xwāndam dar axbār-i xulafā ki čūn harūn ar-rašīd, amir al-mu'minīn az bağdād qasd-i xurāsān kard u ān qissa darāz ast u dar kutub-i musbat ki qasd ba či sabab kard čūn ba tūs rasīd, saxt nālān šud u bar šuruf-i halāk šud, fazl-i rabi' rā bixwānd u wizārat-i ō dāšt az pas-i āl-i barmak.
Thus I have read in the histories of the caliphs: when Harūn al-Rashīd, Commander of the Faithful, set out from Baghdād for Khurāsān (and the story of the reason for which he set out is long, and [described] in reliable books), when he arrived at Tūs, he suddenly moaned out and was on the verge of death. He called for al-Faḍl ibn al-Rabīʿ (his vizierate was after the Barmakids).
      (Classical Persian transliteration)
