Inherited from Proto-Turkic *küdeč (earthenware pot); cognate with Azerbaijani güvəc, Karakhanid كُزَجْ (küzeč), Old Uyghur 𐽷𐽳𐽶𐽱𐽶𐽽 (küvič), Southern Altai кӧӧш (kööš) and Turkmen göweç.
