[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- كَهْيَانَا (kahyānā), of wider distribution but taṣḥīf, for it mimics a common borrowed ending in عَجَمِيّ (ʕajamiyy, “foreign, Persian”) words as in رازیانه (rāziyānā), بادیانه (bādiyāna), hence in Persian کهیانه (kahyāna) beside کهیانا (kahyānā)
Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܥܷܣܒܳܐ ܟܳܗܢܳܝܳܐ (ʕesbā kāhnāyā, “peony”, literally “priestly grass”).
