[edit]From Classical Syriac ܟܢܳܬܴܐ (kənāṯā, “fellow, equal”), from Akkadian kinattu, kinātu (“colleague; comrade, fellow; relative”), or elsewhere ܟܱܠܬܴ݂ܐ (kalləṯā, “bride; daughter-in-law; sister-in-law”), from Akkadian kallatu, kallātu.
