Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *keklik (partridge)[1] and probably related to *kēkir- (to belch). Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (keklik), [script needed] (kekelik), Azerbaijani kəklik, Kazakh кекілік (kekılık) and Salar kegelik.
