From Proto-Turkic *kadïŋ.[1][2] Cognates with Turkish kayın, Southern Altai кайыҥ (kayïŋ), Kyrgyz кайың (kayıŋ), Tofa ӄадыӈ (qadïŋ), Northern Altai кайынъ (kayïnʺ), etc.
