[edit]From Arabic قَيْسِي (qaysī, “an apricot cultivar with large size”), related to Arabic قَيْس (qays, “measurement, comparison”). Alternatively, has been suggested to originate from the placename قیصری (Kayseri), in the sense of "fruit produced in Kayseri".
