From the earlier form قولب (kulb), from Arabic قُلْب (qulb, bracelet, bangle), itself from Classical Syriac ܩܘܠܒܐ (qulbā, bracelet), perhaps from Akkadian 𒄑𒆪𒌌𒁍 (GIŠqu3-ul-pu /⁠qulpu⁠/, encasement, bark of wood).
