[edit]From Classical Syriac ܟܠܩܝܛܪܝܢ (/*kalqiṭārīn/), from Byzantine Greek χαλκιτάριν (khalkitárin), χαλκητάριον (khalkētárion), from classical χαλκάνθη (khalkánthē), χάλκανθον (khálkanthon), χάλκανθος (khálkanthos, “blue vitriol”), derived from χαλκός (khalkós, “copper”).
