[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *karĺčï (“opposite”), a development of *kar- (“to disagree; to be opposite”). Cognate with Azerbaijani qarşı, Bashkir ҡаршы (qarşı), Chuvash хирӗҫ (hirĕś), Kazakh қарсы (qarsy), Kyrgyz каршы (karşı), Turkmen garşy, Uyghur قارشى (qarshi) and Uzbek qarshi.
