Etymology

From Northwestern Middle Iranian *frasax (parasang), cognate with Old Armenian հրասախ (hrasax) an Iranian loanword from same source. Compare Sorthwestern Iranian form, Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (plsng /⁠frasang⁠/) and Persian فرسنگ (farsang). Astronomical sense semantic loan from English parsec. See also فَرْسَخ فَلَكِيّ (farsaḵ falakiyy).
