[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sīĺč- (“to swell, inflate”); cognate with Azerbaijani şişmək, Bashkir шешеү (şeşew), Chuvash шыҫма (šyśma), Kyrgyz шишүү (şişüü), Turkmen çişmek, Tuvan ыжар (ıjar), Uzbek shishmoq and Yakut ис (is).
