Etymology

Borrowed from Parthian *šōrag, cognate to Middle Persian [script needed] (swlk' /⁠sōrag⁠/, salty land). Compare Arabic شورج (šawraj), an Iranian borrowing. By surface analysis, شور (šur, salty) +‎ ـه (-e).
