[edit]Borrowed from a form related to Classical Syriac ܫܶܠܳܠܳܐ (šəlālā, “suture; implication, convoluted situation; stonelet (?); *skein”), cognate with Arabic سَلِيلَة (salīla, “oblong strips of muscles; a long slice of material;”); see also شَلِيل (šalīl, “wrap of cloth used as padding under the rear of a camel's saddle”).
