Arabic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Composed of شِبْه (šibh, quasi-) +‎ جَزِيرَة (jazīra, island) +‎ عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arab, Arabian). شِبْه جَزِيرَة (šibh jazīra) by itself means "peninsula"; note, however, that عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arabian) modifies جَزِيرَة (jazīra) rather than شِبْه (šibh).

Proper noun

[edit]

شِبْه ٱلْجَزِيرَة ٱلْعَرَبِيَّة (šibh al-jazīra l-ʿarabiyyaf

  1. Arabian Peninsula

Declension

[edit]

In fully declined Classical Arabic, شِبْهُ الجَزِيرَةِ العَرَبِيَّةِ (šibhu l-jazīrati l-ʕarabiyyati). شِبْه (šibh, quasi-) is in the construct state, and both following terms are in the genitive case, with عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arabian) an adjectival modifier of جَزِيرَة (jazīra, island), as described above.
