Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sībri (sharp, sharp-edged);[1] cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (süvri), Azerbaijani sivri, Crimean Tatar sivri, Kazakh сүйір (süiır), Kyrgyz сүйрү (süyrü), Southern Altai сӱӱрӱ (süürü, sharp), Turkmen süýri and Yakut үөрбэ (üörbe).
