Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑁄𑀮𑀳 (solaha), from Vedic Sanskrit *षोळश (ṣoḷaśa) (whence Sanskrit षोडश (ṣoḍaśa)), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *swáẓḍaśa.
