Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *sakïŕ (“gum, resin”); cognate with Azerbaijani saqqız, Bashkir һағыҙ (hağıź), Chuvash сухӑр (suh̬ăr), Kazakh сағыз (sağyz), Kyrgyz сагыз (sagız), Turkmen sakgyç, Uyghur سېغىز (sëghiz), Uzbek saqich and Yakut ыас (ıas).
