[edit]Borrowed from Egyptian sḫt (“field, open country”). Unrelated to سَاحَ (sāḥa, “to travel”) if that sense as opposed to “to run, to melt” is not denominal from the present noun. Compare رِيف (rīf, “countryside, rural land”) also borrowed from Egyptian.
