[edit]Borrowed from Sogdian [script needed] (rwxšn /roxšan/, “bright”), from Proto-Iranian *ráwxšnaH, from Proto-Indo-European *lówksneh (“moon”). Doublet of روشن (rowšan), which was inherited.
