From Proto-Afroasiatic *dăr-. Cognate with Ugaritic 𐎄𐎗𐎗 (drr) "to flow copiously", Akkadian 𒁕𒊏𒊒 (darāru) "to be free (of a task); move about freely; run off", Hebrew דְּרוֹר (dĕrо̄r) "flowing; liberty", Old South Arabian 𐩵𐩧𐩧 (drr, abundance, harvest).
