[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀥𑀼𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀸 (*dhuppā), from *𑀥𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑁆 (*dhipp, “to flicker, shine”, root). Cognate Punjabi دُھپّ (dhupp) / ਧੁੱਪ (dhuppa) and Gujarati ધૂપ (dhūp).
