Etymology
[edit]From Middle Persian *dahanag. Compare the Iranian borrowings: Old Armenian դահանակ (dahanak), Classical Syriac ܕܗܢܓ (dhng), Arabic دَهْنَج (dahnaj), دَهَنَج (dahanaj), all ascribed the meaning malachite. Doublet of دهنج (dahnaj) from the Arabic.
