Borrowed from Arabic دِهْلِيز (dihlīz, corridor, hallway), itself from Persian دهلیز (dahliz, vestibule, portico), ultimately from Old Persian [Term?] (/⁠duvarθi-⁠/, portico, colonnade).

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dʾhlyc /⁠dahlīz⁠/, portico), from Old Persian [Term?] (/⁠duvarθi-⁠/, portico, colonnade), from 𐎯𐎺𐎼𐎹𐎠 (du-v-r-y-a /⁠duvar-⁠/, door, gate). Compare Old Armenian դահլիճ (dahlič), Old Georgian დალიჭი (dalič̣i), Iranian borrowings.
