[edit]From Middle Persian [script needed] (xwarrah, “divine glory, splendour”), a borrowing from Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬥𐬀𐬵 (xᵛarənah). Doublet of فر (farr), which was inherited.
