Akin to Old Armenian խոհ (xoh), an Iranian borrowing.

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Perhaps from Proto-Iranian *hṷar (“to consume, eat”), itself probably etymologically identical to *hṷar (“to take”)? Further connections outside of Iranian are uncertain; see Cheung for more on the root(s).^[1] On the other hand, Horn tentatively connects this to Old Armenian քաղցր (kʻałcʻr).^[2]”
